About me
Hi there! Welcome on my website! 🙂

I am Gaby van Berkel, also known as G!BZ. I am nineteen years old and live in Rotterdam since the summer of 2020. Singing and songwriting is my passion. Individually and in the indie-pop band: Pale Blue.

I was born in Amsterdam and grew up in Nieuw Vennep, a small village close by. As a child I loved music. My mother was a singer and a conductor in a barbershop choir and she introduced me to music. When I was seven, I started with piano lessons and I started singing in a church children’s choir. The piano lessons were given by a local woman in my village, but despite the fact that I could pick up the theory and the playing well, I didn’t have a connection with the piano. After two years I quit piano lessons and started with musical lessons, where I got acting-, dance- and singing lessons. Here I discovered, I really liked to sing. After another two years, in 2012, I started with singing lessons only.

The following years, I continued singing and started making music. In 2017 I even started with guitar lessons, because I wanted to be able to perform on my own and write music. Music became a big part of my life, not only in my spare time, but also at school. I went to an Art, Media & Culture high school, where I got the opportunity to perform sometimes. This also has been the place, where a met a few of my bandmates from Pale Blue, although the band wasn’t formed until after highschool, in 2018. We started with making covers of, for example, Fleetwood Mac, Amy Winehouse, The Beatles, Tame Impala and Arctic Monkeys, but slowly started to make our own music.

Together with Pale Plue I was able to develope my vocal, my performance and my writing skills. Besides that I also got to work in a band, which I never really had done before. Working together with Pale Blue made me realise, I wanted to do more with music. I liked to combine our skills to create something that was ours, to create our own identity as a band and to perform together. The band opened my eyes and showed me how much I loved all of this. It made me the happiest and I have never felt so much like myself in another workfield. I love singing, I love making music and I love performing.
